At a distance of 1 km from our house there is the God's Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki which the Holy Father used to visit. A 10-minute walk takes us to the place where we can contemplate the ascetic but noble architecture of the church designed by prof. Witold Cęckiewicz. Since 2002 when John Paul II consecrated the Sanctuary, the church has become a place of worship of saint Sister Faustyna, canonized by the Pope in 2000.
In the very centre of Cracow, at Franciszkańska street there is the seat of the Metropolitan Curia with the famous window where, during His visits to Cracow, the Holy Father appeared greeting often with humour the numerous faithful who came to greet their Pope.
In the hearts of Krakovians this is the place most strongly associated with John Paul II. Since his death, candles are lit there every day...
Following the traces of the Holy Father we must visit two more places in the neighborhood of Cracow.
From our pension house, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska (30 km) or His hometown of Wadowice (40 km) can be easily reached by the shortest routes.
In Kalwaria, we visit the Bernardine Passion and Marian Sanctuary with the Way of the Cross often celebrated by John Paul II.
The most important places in Wadowice, are the Wojtyła family house, the Our Lady's Basilica and the Market Square in which the Holy Father used to celebrate Masses.
And don't forget... the cream cakes!!
